Have you found your artistic inspirations help you to draw?

I'm kind of ambivalent on it.
a) I've noticed sometimes it can be self-defeating; especially if I find out we're close to the same age.  I feel like "why should I keep trying to draw -- I'm just no good compered to 'these guys'".
b) I find too often if I *really* like them Imay try to somewhat copy or assimilate their style to work with mine... but this can be messy, since I'm *trying* another style, one that isn't necessarily my own.
It's always good to have these people though.  Nothing like a good image to really kick the creativity inside of you too, right?
Anyways.  I'm happy to announce that after XX years of trying to find *MY style*, I think I finally got it.  It took for me to find "The Archives" -- a special box of ALL of the drawings I did in High School!  I realized how original I was, how, while inspired by other artists, was mostly done without any references at all.  Work that was almost ten years old was still able to impress me.  How weird is that?  I love how many of my sketches were done on school assignment sheets or whatever.  I'm sure most modarn day would-be artists can agree how much of our talent comes from the little margins of 9.5x11 pages of paper. x)

All my love.
Tell me who inspires YOU guys!! :D

I think you've already heard this one but you were my inspiration for starting my hobby in drawing. No joke, when I first saw your work on dA I was like "Dang, I wanna draw/sketch like that!" So at first I tried to emulate your style by using some of the tutorials you created. I also tried drawing some of your sketches free hand and they turned out kind of different with a touch of my coloring and pencil style. Eventually I looked to other artists, like ones who did concept art for video games and anime and incorporated some of the styles that I liked into that existing style.

I'm still improving but I think I'm pretty much set in a style that is in the middle ground between realistic and anime-esque.

Eh, I agree.
When I see 14 year olds that draw like pro, it kinda brings my self-esteem down OTL
Incorporating other people's style isn't necessarily a bad thing. I found my own style gradually changing for the past few month because I've been more art-active. I had thought that my style wouldn't change too much since it has already settle down, but seems like I was wrong. Though it's true that sometimes I feel lost, but it did help me improve a lot. Plus, I think it just comes naturally. It's like your brain has absorbed some information and is trying to use it. But there's a certain style I'm aiming for, so I guess I'm trying to change my style. So far I did change, but not exactly as planned xD

I think it's hard to stay in one style when you're improving.
And even if better artists don't have as much space to improve as the more new artists, they are still evolving, and their art is bound to evolve with them. It's just a matter of how apparent the evolution is.

Still, looking back on how much I've improved myself, I'll just keep drawing. x3 And the inspirations is telling you "look, it's possible for you to draw like that TOO!"
SO yeah, trying to encourage myself ;w;

Haha I definitely agree. There seems to be a middle way between your style, and being inspired -- but like you say there's also just simply "the way you draw". I guess it's best to just let things take their course and merely practice a helluva lot. :P
